[about the project] [calculation] [exhibition] [artwork] [comments] [other work by David Topping]

During February and March 2006, 10 walks were undertaken from points within Wales. Each walk started from a different site where a roadside memorial had been created. The direction taken was towards the geographic centre of Wales, close to Cwmystwyth (Ordnance Survey grid reference SN 79728.22 71704.43), and each walk lasted for 3hrs 14min 15sec, the approximate value of Geometric symbol for PI ( PI). The individual sites are not referred to except as starting points as this project is not specifically about the people involved in those cases but is seeking to develop a holistic approach to our attitudes towards grief, loss, remembrance and behaviour. Data from each walk was recorded on GPS devices and a heart rate monitor. This data was then used to calculate a value of the amount of grief generated by each site and through my interaction with it.

The images used and the GPS co-ordinates stated were taken at the end point of each walk.
